Can Fog Lights Be Used As Day-Running Lights?

Day Running Lights, or DRLs, are standard on almost all new cars in the United States. These improve your vehicle’s visibility for approaching traffic and drivers looking in the rearview mirror in front of you. Even if your headlights are turned off, they remain on. They’re either automatic, parking, or narrow LED lights that frame the projector headlights and taillights.

On the one hand, it is not a good idea to use fog lights during the day. Non-functioning DRLs, on the other hand, put you in a different situation.

Because you must be visible to other automobiles even during the day, it is acceptable to leave your fog lights on to indicate the position and speed of your approaching vehicle. Turning on the standard headlights may be sufficient if vision is poor owing to non-foggy weather. It is better to stay cautious and wait for your fog lights to be fixed or fitted if it is heavily raining or foggy.
